Since you mentioned your age, I get why you feel frustrated. However, I have to agree with Jim Reser's reply because as someone that has had to be present for family during rough times, writing and blogging for 7 years while holding down a day job and teaching classes a few nights a week, you need to focus on doing over looking at what not to do.

You get a job, write when you're not at it or have to be at it. You make time for what's important to you and Medium is only good for one, very small stream of income. Add other options that are writing based, you're obviously good at it so it won't feel like work when you're doing it.
