Rener Gracie to Be Featured on Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel
Rener Gracie will be making an appearance on the next episode of Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. The August 24 episode will feature Police training jiu-jitsu in Marietta, Georgia as a means to give law enforcement practical skills they can use safely.
In a press release from HBO, The segment will be on Police Jiu-JItsu training with the following description:
With police desperate to find ways to regain the trust of their communities, the famed Gracie family believes the way to kinder, gentler cops is to teach them the sport they developed: Brazilian jiu-jitsu, a martial art and combat sport used in the typically violent world of MMA. The police department in Marietta, Georgia has incorporated the art of jiu-jitsu into their training and has seen a surprising reduction in clashes between police officers and the community they serve.
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a martial art, it was meant for self-defense before it got watered down by sports. Martial arts is always associated with violence, but when it comes to self-defense it is a means of keeping peace in the hands of someone trained properly.
