I asked the above question on Quora back in March. The conversation seems to have re-emerged after last weekend’s UFC event (UFC Vegas 55 if you’re counting). The fight between Holly Holm and Ketlen Viera seems to be a topic of discussion. Viera got the nod, some folks seem to think Holm won.
I’ve passed on Holm fighting as of late because she has not finished an opponent since 2017. She deserves respect for having once held the bantamweight title and especially because she ended the Ronda Rousey reign in the division. But ever since it’s been a flip-flop record of wins and losses.
So, would open scoring help someone like her or any athlete in combat sports?
The UFC would have to try it to find out.
