Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu good for street fighting?

The short answer is, ‘yes’.

However, you will get a lot of replies from the hardcore followers of more traditional arts telling you that some of the ground aspects of the art are not recommended in situations where there are multiple attackers. They’re not wrong, and it does happen.

However, if you’re not in a mob situation and you only have yourself to depend on you have to use what’s best. Many fights don’t last longer than 2 minutes and not because there is a clear cut winner or loser, but because there will be intervention.

Either by law enforcement or bystanders, the fight will not last long. It will be stopped. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can certainly give you the tools to at least control someone long enough for help to come, if not to finish the attacker but to at least subdue them.

Here’s an example; Tara Larosa recently subdued and aggressor with plenty of folks around until the police came.
