Focus and fortitude always win.
If martial arts training teaches you anything, it’s that by staying focused and true to your course you can achieve anything you put your mind to. It’s something we hear as kids and don’t hear enough when we get older. But, in my work covering mixed martial arts and my training, I keep seeing the practice hold true, not just for myself but for other people.
I don’t like to just train physically, I like to keep my mind sharp too so I always make it a point to read as much as I can to improve my way of thinking and stay motivated to focus on my goals. I’m noticing a trend in the self-help books I read where the idea of staying committed to your goals keeps coming up as a healthy practice and how the rewards, eventually come along with it.
I want to list some of them here along with an example from a fighter we recently had on Coast-2-Coast Combat Hour that went through some adversity but continues to focus on what he wants to do.

“Pursue what is meaningful (not what is expedient)”
This part of the book talks about how easy it is to take the easy route. It’s hard not to do, especially in our day-to-day activities. I’m guilty of it for simple things like if no one is in self-checkout but there is a line for the cashier, I’ll do self-checkout.
However, for the stuff that matters. Like training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, my writing career, and other personal goals that mean anything. Nothing matters more than when you achieve them. If it were quick and easy, it wouldn’t mean anything.
