Dana White Flew Too Close to The Sun For UFC 249
Dana White may have flown too close to the sun when it came to UFC 249. In his efforts to make the UFC continue to run, when every other sport has been halted due to the coronavirus pandemic it looks like his bosses finally stepped in to ask him to stand down.
ESPN broke the news early Thursday evening that UFC 249 had been canceled, although White clarified during an Instagram live post that it is not canceled, only postponed. The official statement from the UFC said the same, that UFC 249 has been postponed as well as all subsequent events.
White still has a goal of being the sport back when the pandemic situation passes. He confirmed that UFC 249 was indeed going to be at the Tachi Palace Casino in Lemoore, California and had nothing but praise for the people he was working with at the venue.
So much so, he said that when sports can resume, he wants to bring a big event to Tachi Palace. He did not clarify if that would be UFC 249 but since that was the next event, it would make sense. White says despite his partner (ESPN) not wanting him to move forward, he said: “I can go next week.”
White said that if he were able to move forward on his planned schedule, he was going to be back to putting on fights regularly by the end of May. Unfortunately, he will have to wait like the rest of the world.
One thing White did say is that, “I’m going to take care of as many people as I possibly can.” He also said he would “make things right with the people that were willing to step up and fight this weekend. All my employees, nobody’s getting laid off at the UFC.”
How do you feel about the postponement?
